Special Borrower’s Card

A Special Borrower’s Card allows the user to borrow materials from the USF Tampa library’s circulating book collection and government documents. Regional campus library privileges are not available with this card. Special Borrower’s cards are for individuals that are not part of any of USF’s affiliated entities. If you believe you may be part of one a USF affiliate organization, please inquire at the Library Services Desk for information about available library services you may have access to as part of service agreements. Cost

The costs for a Special Borrower’s Card (per year) are as follows:

Loan Period and Book Limit

The Special Borrower’s Card permits the user to borrow circulating material for a period of three (3) weeks. The user may borrow a maximum of ten (10) items at any one time. Circulating materials for Special Borrower’s cardholders include books (3rd, 4th, and 5th floors) and most government documents in the lower level. Items that may not be checked out with the Special Borrower’s Card include, but are not limited to, periodicals, reference materials, reserve materials, special collections, and items housed in the Media Resources (MR)., with the exception of Alumni Special Borrower Cards which can check out materials from the Media resources. In addition, the Tampa Library’s Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service are not available to any Special Borrower’s cardholders.

Renewals

Library materials may be renewed one (1) time, provided a hold or recall has not been requested by another library user. All circulating library materials are subject to recall by other library users. Library materials may be renewed online via the USF Libraries’ website or in person at the Tampa Library Circulation Desk. All renewals are subject to immediate recall if requested by another library user.

Returning Borrowed Library Materials

Circulating library materials may be returned through the book return stations located on the wall outside the library’s exit doors.

Overdue Fines and Replacement Charges

The Tampa Library assesses fines for overdue library materials and overdue recalled library materials at the rate of $0.50 per day per item. Overdue library materials or overdue fines will block the use of the Special Borrower’s Card until the item is returned and/or the overdue fine is paid. The Tampa Library charges for replacement costs of lost or damaged library materials. Lost or damaged library materials should be reported at the Library’s Circulation Desk as soon as possible.

Renewing Special Borrower’s Card

Cards may be renewed in person at the Tampa Library Circulation Desk.

Lost or Stolen Cards

Please report a lost or stolen Special Borrower’s Card promptly to the Tampa Library Circulation Desk. A replacement card can be issued and the library will block further use of the lost or stolen Special Borrower’s Card.

Access to Electronic Resources

Special Borrower’s cards do not permit remote access to the USF Libraries’ website. Due to licensing agreements, all users who come to the library may access the Library website and a host of other databases. Only currently enrolled USF students, faculty, and staff may access the Libraries website remotely.
